The Paris Private Equity team advised BPI Large Venture in a new $25 million Series A financing for OWKIN, a US startup specializing in artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies for the healthcare industry.
With this additional financing, the startup intends to continue the development of its machine learning model based on artificial intelligence and foster its deployment to a clientele comprised of hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, universities and other research institutions. OWKIN also plans to expand in Asia, starting with China.
BPI France, via its BPI Large Venture fund, led the new $25 million financing round for OWKIN, an American startup specializing in machine learning for medical research, investing alongside existing and new investors including Cathay Innovation and MACSF (Mutuelle d'Assurances du Corps de Santé Français). OWKIN was co-founded in September 2016 by Thomas Clozel, MD, clinical research doctor and former assistant professor in clinical hematology and Gilles Wainrib, PhD, a pioneer in the field of Artificial Intelligence in biology.
The cross-border, cross-disciplinary Goodwin team was led by partner Thomas Dupont-Sentilles and included Daniel Isaacs, Charles-Henri de Gouvion Saint Cyr, Janet Andolina, Paul Fournière, Richard Matheny, Justin Pierce, Bethany Withers, Timothy Holahan, Ana Alvarado, Rachel Smith, Crescent Moran Chasteen, Jennifer Miani and Brian Mukherjee.
