Bethany P. Withers

Bethany Withers is a partner in Goodwin’s Strategic Technology Transactions and Licensing practice and a member of the firm’s Technology group. She also serves as the chair our AI + Machine Learning Practice, leading our cross-disciplinary team in driving strategy, supporting our clients, and ensuring Goodwin remains at the forefront of legal and regulatory developments in artificial intelligence. Beth concentrates on technology, data, publicity rights and intellectual property matters, including technology and data transfers and licensing; collaboration, strategic alliance and joint development agreements; celebrity endorsement and influencer agreements and related social media and marketing programs; compliance with sweepstakes and promotion laws; and due diligence and other intellectual property issues in mergers, acquisitions and venture capital and private equity transactions.

Beth works with a broad base of start-up, venture-back, and growth companies in a variety of sectors, including consumer and enterprise software; cosmetics and fashion; media and entertainment; fintech; medtech; digital health and wellness. She also represents individual celebrities and influencers in connection with endorsement and licensing deals. She joined Goodwin in 2011 and is a member of the Boston Hiring Committee.

Beth serves as an advisor at the Harvard iLab, advising student startups on intellectual property and licensing-related matters.

Beth was identified as “One to Watch” in the 2023 edition of The Best Lawyers in America, and a recommended lawyer for Patents: licensing by the Legal 500 US (2021, 2024). She was also named a recommend lawyer by the legal 500 US for Technology Transactions (2024).
