Global law firm Goodwin announced today that Edwin Chan has joined the firm as partner in the global Private Equity practice, resident in the Hong Kong office.
“Edwin brings to Goodwin’s Hong Kong office and our global private equity platform a proven track record, deep expertise in the Asia-Pacific region, and trusted relationships across the private equity industry,” said Yash Rana, chair of Goodwin’s Hong Kong office. “As we continue to see significant demand from our private equity clients, Edwin will help us continue to scale up our premier private equity team in Asia. His addition underscores our running commitment to bringing the best talent for the benefit of both investor and company-side clients.”
Chan’s practice focuses on private equity transactions, investment restructuring and exits, including cross-border and domestic mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, growth capital and pre-IPO investments, PIPE, co-investments and structured and special situations investments. He has advised many leading financial sponsors through the life cycle of their investments across the region. He has been recognized by Legal 500 as a recommended lawyer for corporate matters (including M&A) and private equity in Hong Kong.
Goodwin’s full-service practice in Hong Kong serves clients in all of Goodwin’s key industry verticals, including private equity, technology, life sciences, financial services and real estate. In May, Goodwin was recognized by the China Business Law Journal with three awards, including in the Private Equity & Venture Capital, Healthcare, Pharma & Life Sciences and Consumer & Retail categories. The firm was also named the 2021 M&A Firm of the Year for Medium-Sized Deals Under $500 Million by the Asia Legal Awards.
Refinitiv named Goodwin the number one firm for private equity and venture capital rounds, and the number one legal advisor (by deal count) for global M&A in 2020, representing clients on more than 650 completed transactions. This success has continued in 2021, as Refinitiv’s Q1 global M&A league tables named Goodwin the number one legal advisor (by deal count) for global M&A as well as mid-market and small-cap global M&A.
