Global law firm Goodwin announced today that Julien Schraub and Céline Moille will join the firm’s Luxembourg office as counsel in the Tax and Financial Services practices, respectively. Additionally, Philip Spilberg has been promoted to counsel in the Private Investment Funds practice, effective January 1, 2024.
“Adding additional tax and regulatory capabilities with Julien and Céline and recognizing Philip’s continued excellence will further strengthen our fully integrated Luxembourg offering as we work alongside our clients on fund structuring and transactions,” said Alexandrine Armstrong-Cerfontaine, head of Goodwin’s Luxembourg practice. “These developments are a continued indicator of both our ability to attract the best talent in the Luxembourg market and to offer development opportunities to our exceptional bench of attorneys already at the firm.”
With over 15 years of experience, Julien focuses on Luxembourg income tax law providing general tax planning, international tax planning, as well as tax-related matters with regard to mergers, acquisitions and corporate restructuring to multinational firms and asset managers involved in the private equity, real estate and debt strategies. He assists asset managers in setting up their Luxembourg regulated/non-regulated platforms, including structuring of intermediate holding and financing arrangements, management incentive plans and co-investment programs.
Céline has ten years of experience advising clients including private banks, public entities, regulated and supervised institutions, distribution networks, and start-ups on the laws and regulations applying to regulated entities in the space of Fintech, Digital and Blockchain. She also has strong expertise, recognized by the market, on the Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), which is a critical piece of legislation now impacting all European fund managers.
Philip, who joined Goodwin in April 2021, has experience in the structuring, formation and fundraising of regulated and unregulated Luxembourg investment funds in the field of alternative investments across a variety of asset classes, with a particular focus on private equity and venture funds, as well as co-investment and carried interest vehicles.
The lawyers in the Luxembourg office, which opened in 2019, cover the entire spectrum of international funds, corporate, finance and tax expertise for fund formation and structuring, domestic and cross border transactions and financings, with Chambers Global noting that the firm’s “Luxembourg team is strong and growing in strength and depth”.
Goodwin has been named the number one firm (by deal count) for global M&A by Refinitiv in its full-year 2020, 2021 & 2022 league tables. In addition to these results, the H1 2023 league tables highly ranked Goodwin for its ability to advise clients throughout a variety of M&A and Private Equity transactions in multiple jurisdictions, including being named number one firm by deal count for Global M&A by Refinitiv and for European Buyouts by Mergermarket.
