World Trademark Review (WTR) 1000 has highly ranked Goodwin’s Intellectual Property practice and partners Jessica Rothstein, Robert Carroll, and Sharon Smith in the 2023 edition of the annual guide to the world’s leading trademark professionals and practices. This is the eighth consecutive year Goodwin has been honored by WTR 1000, as the firm’s versatility and client-focused approach have made it a global leader in the trademark sector.
WTR 1000 recognized Goodwin’s work in New York for Enforcement and Litigation and Prosecution and Strategy. The guide praised the firm, stating that for “portfolio management and global counselling for internationally recognized brands, clients cannot do much better than Goodwin Procter’s New York trademark team.”
WTR 1000 also ranked Goodwin’s capabilities in Massachusetts. The commentary noted Goodwin’s team of “high-caliber, highly experienced practitioners” and their ability to engage in “high-profile work,” as the firm “has led five IP wins at the Supreme Court since 2013.”
Goodwin lawyers also stood out in the rankings. Carroll was recognized in Massachusetts for his accomplishments in Enforcement and Litigation. Client feedback described Carroll as a “top-notch infringement litigator” who is “smart, diligent, has a great understanding of client needs, and has a good sense of when to be aggressive and when to be more conservative.”
In New York, Rothstein was recognized for her expertise in Enforcement and Litigation and Prosecution and Strategy. Clients told WTR 1000 that she is “one the best IP lawyers I’ve ever worked with,” and that she routinely goes “above and beyond and treats our business as if it were her own.”
Based in San Francisco, Smith was a highly ranked lawyer in California for Enforcement and Litigation. WTR referred to her as one of the “top IP pathfinders on the West Coast” who is known for making “decisive plays in IP and commercial cases.”
Now in its 13th year, qualifying practitioners, firms, and lawyers are selected for inclusion in the WTR 1000 based on an extensive four-month research period. To compile this year’s rankings, WTR 1000’s researchers reviewed a record number of submissions, and conducted nearly 2,000 interviews with lawyers and clients in more than 80 jurisdictions around the world.
