Global law firm Goodwin announced today that partner Markus Käpplinger will join its Frankfurt office, strengthening the firm’s Real Estate Industry offering.
A highly regarded corporate practitioner in the German market, Käpplinger focuses his practice on global M&A, private equity and venture capital transactions, fund formation matters and management equity participations. He brings significant experience advising real estate funds on complex acquisition structures. At Goodwin, he will focus on advising clients in the real estate sector, which is core to the firm’s platform in the region.
“Markus’ practice fits perfectly into our private investment funds, and transactional and finance real estate offerings in Germany,” said Stephan Kock, chair of Goodwin’s Frankfurt office. “This appointment significantly broadens our ability to serve corporate and real estate clients, and advances our position as the leading real estate and private equity team in the German market.”
“We are delighted to add Markus’ broad skill set to our European real estate practice,” said Minta Kay, chair of the Real Estate Industry practice. “Markus’ extensive experience will be extremely valuable as we continue work with innovator and investor clients during a transformative time for the real estate industry.”
Käpplinger joins during an expansive time for Goodwin in Germany, following the recent hires of private investment funds partner Sebastian Bruchwitz and a private equity team consisting of partner Jan Schinköth and counsel Sebastian Walczak. These hires came shortly after private investment funds joined Goodwin in Germany earlier this year to address the increased demand from German clients investing into US funds and international funds clients investing in Germany.
Since opening in 2016, Goodwin’s German platform has grown to more than 30 lawyers serving a broad array of European investors, lenders, and innovators across the real estate, private equity, technology, and financial services industries.
Goodwin’s Real Estate Industry practice spans fund formation; joint venture, finance and transactions; and public company/REIT work and real estate M&A. The firm’s pioneering PropTech practice brings together the firm’s deep expertise in real estate and technology. Goodwin’s first-of-its-kind PropSci practice focuses on addressing the growing real estate needs of life sciences companies as they face challenges in developing land and facilities that support their businesses in a continuously evolving sector. Goodwin is consistently ranked as a top advisor in the real estate industry, including as the “Real Estate Law Firm of the Year” by Best Lawyers and a “Leading Real Estate Law Firm” by Commercial Property Executive.
