Peter (Pete) Marta is a partner in Goodwin’s Complex Litigation & Dispute Resolution group and Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity practice. He advises global organizations at the C-suite and Board level on all aspects of responding to complex cybersecurity incidents, as well as on cyber and data risk management and governance, proactive cyber incident readiness, insider threats, regulatory strategy, and government and internal investigations. Leveraging decades of experience in government and the private sector, Pete helps clients navigate the rapidly evolving cybersecurity threat landscape, respond to a broad range of crises, and find practical solutions to complex problems.

Experience
- Led hundreds of investigations into a wide variety of cybersecurity incidents affecting organizations across a range of industries, including those in the financial services, technology, energy, defense, manufacturing, education, hospitality, and retail sectors
- Coordinated and managed cybersecurity assessments, and related enhancement and remediation plans, for numerous global organizations
- Advised C-suites and boards of numerous Fortune 100 companies on all aspects of cybersecurity risk management, proactive cyber incident readiness, and mitigation of data-related regulatory and reputational risks
- Developed, evaluated, and refined insider threat and employee monitoring programs at several leading global financial institutions, and led numerous insider threat investigations
- Developed and led a wide variety of cybersecurity “tabletop” exercises, workshops, and simulations for information security teams, C-suites, and boards, including exercises involving complex nation state attacks and insider threat scenarios
- Advised clients on data security-related risks in mergers and acquisitions and assisted with evaluating the data security programs and practices of key suppliers and business partners
Professional Experience
Prior to joining Goodwin, Pete was a partner in the Privacy and Cybersecurity practice of another international law firm.
Previously, Pete was Assistant General Counsel for Global Cybersecurity at JPMorgan Chase, where he was head counsel to the firm’s Chief Information Security Officer and its Chief Security Officer. In that role, Pete counseled all levels of the organization, from its security operations centers to the boardroom, and built a sophisticated and multidisciplinary in-house cyber legal team.
Prior to his corporate experience, Pete served as an Operations Officer in the US Intelligence Community. He began his legal career as a corporate associate at another international law firm.
