Global law firm Goodwin announced today that Steven Clemens joined the firm’s Tax practice, resident in the New York office.
“Our tax practice provides instrumental transactional support for our clients, who remain exceptionally busy at the intersection of capital and innovation,” said Neal Sandford, chair of Goodwin’s Tax practice. “Steven is an accomplished tax lawyer, and his experience across the private equity, technology, life sciences, real estate, and financial industries is a direct match for the needs of our clients.”
Clemens advises fund sponsors, investors, and issuers on domestic and cross-border tax matters that arise from complex mergers and acquisitions. He also counsels strategic and financial clients on the formation of investment funds. Clemens has been ranked as a Top Rated Tax Attorney by Super Lawyers, named a Law360 MVP, and listed in Euromoney/Legal Media Group’s Tax Expert Guide series. He is regularly recognized by The Legal 500 US and Chambers USA.
“Goodwin is extremely active in the industries that are fueling global transactional activity,” said Clemens. “I’m excited to join a team of talented lawyers and be part of a phenomenal firm culture as we provide sophisticated tax counsel to clients.”
Over the past year, Goodwin has ranked at the top of the global M&A and fund formation league tables. Refinitiv named Goodwin the number one legal advisor (by deal count) for global and U.S. M&A in Q1 2021, and Mergermarket’s latest Deal Drivers reports named Goodwin a top three firm (by deal count) for the life sciences and technology sectors. Goodwin was named Fund Formation Practice Group of the Year by Law360, Investment Fund Formation and Management Firm of the Year by the Legal 500 UK Awards, Best Legal Advisor for Fundraising — Infrastructure by IJ Global, and Legal Advisor of the Year for Fund Structuring by SuperReturn Awards.
Clemens is the third tax partner to join Goodwin in the past three months, following the additions of Dulcie Daly and David Irvine in London.
