On October 30, 2023, the US Securities and Exchange Commission announced that it charged a public company (SolarWinds) and its Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) with fraud and defective disclosure controls in connection with disclosing cyber risks to investors. The move is the latest signal that regulators are "leaning in" on cyber, and the increased scrutiny is leaving corporate officers (and CISO's, in particular) asking whether they have previously unrecognized--personal--exposure in their roles.
