Goodwin Advises Acceleron on Series A Funding to Pursue a Plasma-Free Approach to Fusion

The Technology team advised Acceleron on its Series A funding round co-led by Lowercarbon Capital and Collaborative Fund. The funding will be used to help develop prototypes of key reactor components to help advance its unique approach to clean, safe, and abundant energy. Acceleron has now completed more than 100 hours of continuous fusion in its machine, using the High Intensity Proton Accelerator facility and Swiss Muon Source at the Paul Scherrer Institute. The experiments are aimed at gathering data rather than producing useful amounts of energy.

Acceleron Fusion is a pioneer in muon-catalyzed fusion technology. The company spun out of NK Labs in 2023 after it was awarded two ARPA-E grants to research muon-catalyzed fusion and develop a more efficient muon source. Since then, the company has raised funding from investors including Lowercarbon Capital, Collaborative Fund, Sergey Gorbunov, Waikit Lau, Ravikant Capital, Georgios Vlachos, Malcom Handley, AE Blue Capital, Matt Sweeney, Rajeev Surati, and Andrew Volpe.

The Goodwin team was led by Andrew Sparks, David Brekke, Monica Devlin, Nikki Miller, Sam Boomgaarden and Suktri Thonse, and included JB Schiller, Ben Horwitz, Jinny Kim, and Cristina Provencio.
