At Goodwin, Chief Operating Officer Mary O’Carroll is thinking about how the firm prices its services. At tech-oriented Goodwin, she’s focusing on a key part of the relationship between lawyers and their clients: billing. O’Carroll said she would “like to see more trust built between clients and law firms” when it comes to how firms price services. "The billable hour has eroded trust between law firms and clients,” O’Carroll said. “There’s a time and place for that. But there are definitely going to be different ways for us to deliver advice in the future that require us to think differently than we have in the past.” “I certainly know how challenging it is to be on the business side and try and transform a law firm, not just run it,” O’Carroll said to Bloomberg Law.
