As Goodwin’s Chief Operating Officer, Mary is responsible for developing and executing operational strategies, innovations, controls, and procedures to advance the firm’s business and strategic objectives. She oversees the firm’s Global Operations (GO) team of more than 1,000 business professionals globally. Mary serves on the firm’s Executive and Management committees.
Prior to Goodwin, Mary was the Chief Community Officer at Ironclad, a leading contract management software company. Before that, Mary spent 13 years at Google as Director of Legal Operations, Technology, and Strategy. In this role, she developed strategies and implemented processes and innovations to build out the function and advance operational and business priorities. While at Google, Mary was a founder of the Corporate Legal Operations Consortium (CLOC), a global community of legal operations professionals. During her five-year tenure as President, CEO, and Board Member, the CLOC community grew from 40 to 3,000 members. Earlier in her career, Mary served in a strategy, operations, and profitability role at an international law firm.
Mary is a prolific author and host of the podcast Pearls On, Gloves Off. Her work is the subject of two Harvard Law School case studies. She has been recognized as a leader and innovator by the Financial Times (Champion of Generative AI Innovation, Legal Intrapreneur), the American Bar Association (Women of Legal Tech; Legal Rebel), and LegalTech News (Legal Department Operations Director of the Year).
