Goodwin lawyers Julia White and Bill Collins have been announced as Law360 Rising Stars for 2022. Ms. White was selected in the Capital Markets category, while Mr. Collins was selected in the Life Sciences category. Law360 received over 1,350 submissions for this year’s awards, and winners were chosen based on their recent achievements, overall body of work and potential for future success in their respective disciplines.
Ms. White is a partner in the firm’s Technology group, specializing in all areas of corporate and securities laws with a primary focus on capital markets transactions, public company representation and advising emerging-growth technology companies. One of the leading young lawyers at the forefront of the largest and most innovative capital markets transactions in the market, Ms. White represents companies and underwriters across a variety of equity and debt offerings, and is an expert when it comes to devising and structuring novel lockup parameters. She also advises private equity and venture capital firms as investors in some of the market’s biggest IPOs.
Beyond her practice, Ms. White is a member of the Hiring Committee for Goodwin’s San Francisco office, where she helps to set the firm’s hiring strategy and participates in interviews with summer associates. She also serves on the Attorney Development Committee, which provides training programsand helps to foster the professional development of lawyers across Goodwin’s California offices. Previously, Ms. White was named a 2021 Dealmaker of the Year by The American Lawyer.
A partner in Goodwin’s Life Sciences group, Mr. Collins is known for his unique ability to advise emerging companies in the biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and medical device industries from launch through to multi-billion dollar exit transactions. Mr. Collins has worked with many of his company-side clients since their initial founding and funding, and possesses extensive experience when it comes to advising on startup and formation matters, venture capital financing, initial public offerings and capital markets transactions, mergers and acquisitions, strategic collaborations, and other complex transactions. Mr. Collins also represents a number of top-tier venture capital and investment firms focused on funding biotechnology and medical device companies.
In the community, Mr. Collins is an active participant in Goodwin’s Neighborhood Business Initiative (NBI), which is committed to providing pro bono business and legal services to small businesses and entrepreneurs that face discrimination. This work builds on his background as an Economic Justice Fellow at the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights, where he coordinated with community groups and local attorneys to bring pro bono business legal services to low-income and minority entrepreneurs in Eastern Massachusetts. Mr. Collins was previously recognized as a Next Generation Partner by The Legal 500 United States in 2021.
