Goodwin Boosts Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity Team with Industry Leader Omer Tene

Professionals

Global law firm Goodwin announced today that Omer Tene will join the Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity practice as partner, resident in the firm’s Boston office. Tene will be joined by associates Josephine Jay and Annabel Loose in London. These game-changing hires follow the arrival a team of associates in New York earlier this year, bringing the number of data privacy lawyers the firm has brought on board in 2021 to 12 – in New York, London, San Francisco, Boston, and Washington D.C.

Tene is widely recognized as one of the leading voices globally in privacy and technology policy.

“The dream team – there is no other way to describe the group of professionals who comprise Goodwin’s Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity practice,” said Goodwin Partner. “Omer’s rare combination of legal skills, an ability to see what’s coming around the corner, and network of policymakers and regulators enables us to prepare clients, especially our strong portfolio of emerging companies, for the influx of global privacy, cybersecurity and AI regulation. The addition of Omer, together with Josephine and Annabel, and other data privacy lawyers who have joined the firm is a huge stepping stone on our path towards building a premier global destination privacy practice.”

“Goodwin’s client base, which includes a spectacular collection of technology and life science companies, together with the firm’s commitment to and investment in a market-leading privacy practice, provides a unique and exciting opportunity for me to immediately impact the market upon arrival,” said Tene.

Tene joins Goodwin after serving as Vice President and Chief Knowledge Officer at the International Association of Privacy Professionals, where he led the creation and distribution of content, research, programming and knowledge for the privacy community. He has also served as an adviser to governments, regulatory agencies and businesses on privacy, cybersecurity and data management. An Affiliate Scholar at the Stanford Center for Internet and Society, and a Senior Fellow at the Future of Privacy Forum, Tene was appointed to the Arbitration Panel under the U.S.-EU Privacy Shield Agreement. He has authored a number of articles on privacy and data protection published in law and technology reviews of Yale, Stanford, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, George Mason, University of North Carolina, Fordham, and Ohio State.

Goodwin’s Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity practice leverages the firm’s strengths in technology, life sciences, healthcare, financial institutions, real estate, licensing, litigation, and regulatory compliance. The practice provides a full spectrum of services, including counseling, transaction-related advice, incident preparedness and response and defense of class action litigation and government enforcement actions.
