Goodwin is actively seeking Associate attorneys to join its Intellectual Property (“IP”) Litigation team on both the East and West coast. Goodwin is looking for highly qualified, motivated, and team-oriented junior and mid-level IP litigation associates who focus on technology, life sciences, or both. Associates may join any of Goodwin’s rapidly growing IP practices in its Boston, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Redwood City, and Washington, D.C. offices.
IP Associates at Goodwin get early, meaningful opportunities to take responsibility for substantive aspects of a case. Elizabeth Low, an associate in Goodwin’s Silicon Valley office says, “In my four years with Goodwin, I’ve worked on two trials and had opportunities to argue motions in court, take and defend depositions, and take witness testimony in arbitration. I never expected to have so many hands-on opportunities as a junior or midlevel associate.” Goodwin Associates are not limited in the type of work that they can do simply because of their class year. “We look for opportunities for our associates. We have extremely talented young lawyers – why would we not want to take advantage of that?” says Daryl Wiesen, Boston Partner and IP Litigation Chair.
Goodwin Associates are also not limited in the types of cases and subject matter they work on. Many of Goodwin’s associates work across the entire IP landscape. “Goodwin provides you with the support to forge the path you want for your legal career,” says James Breen, a New York Associate. “Since the first day I joined Goodwin as a lateral, I have been able to maintain the diverse and broad practice that I want, which includes both technology and life sciences cases, as well as, cases involving patent, trade secret, or commercial licensing disputes.”
As the IP Litigation group has continued to grow in the past few years the group has been mindful to ensure that new laterals are welcomed and supported during their transition. “As a lateral myself I know the feeling that comes along with making one of the biggest career decisions of your life,” says James Breen. “The decision to leave the known for the unknown is never easy, but Goodwin goes above and beyond to ensure that each new lateral has the resources and support they need to succeed at the firm.” Amanda Stephenson a recent lateral to the D.C. office says, “[w]hen I lateralled to Goodwin, I was integrated onto case teams right away. Everyone was very understanding and helpful as I got up to speed on the firm and my new cases. Goodwin has also allowed me to work on life sciences and technology cases, giving me valuable experience and widening the scope of my practice. I have enjoyed working with and learning from the amazing attorneys at the firm.”
Goodwin’s support for its associates is not limited to lateral integration, but centers on all aspects of the associate experience, whether it be diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, support for those in caregiver roles, or work-life integrations. “In addition to offering incredible stand-up opportunities early in your career, Goodwin offers something that is often elusive – an amazing group of people who really like each other and genuinely care about each other, both personally and professionally. Goodwin’s commitment to its attorneys goes far beyond professional advancement,” says Christie Larochelle an Associate in the Boston office.
