Laurenz is an associate in Goodwin’s Antitrust and Competition practice. He represents clients before the European Commission, national competition authorities, and European courts, including the European Court of Justice. He has secured favourable results for clients in some of the largest, most high-profile and complex mergers and cartel cases globally. Laurenz also helps clients navigate through the antitrust aspects of litigation and public investigations, and he has experience acting for clients both on the complainant as well as the defendant side in proceedings and investigations relating to abuse of market dominance.

Laurenz advises clients across all sectors, with a particular focus on the tech sector specifically. He regularly advises clients on antitrust issues relating to digital platforms, e-commerce, fintech, and digital advertising.

Laurenz studied at the University of Oxford and is admitted to practice in Brussels (A-list) and London (as a Registered Foreign Lawyer). He works in English, Dutch, and French.

Laurenz’s representative experience in recent years includes advising:

  • Viterra BV on its $1.2 billion acquisition of Gavilon*
  • Meta Platforms, Inc. (formerly “Facebook, Inc.”) on its $400 million acquisition of GIPHY, Inc.*
  • Amazon.com, Inc. in the context of the European Commission’s investigation into alleged abuse of platform data by the company*
  • Stryker Corporation on its $4 billion acquisition of Wright Medical Group N.V. and its $530 million acquisition of Cerus Endovascular*
  • ABB Ltd. on its €2.6 billion acquisition of General Electric’s Industrial Solutions portfolio, as well as on its appeal before the European Court of Justice against an infringement decision by the European Commission in the ‘power cable cartel’ case*
  • Armstrong Industries Ltd on its €330 million acquisition by Knauf Limited*
  • Myovant Sciences on the antitrust aspects in relation to its exclusive license agreement with Accord Healthcare, Ltd. to commercialise Orgovyx for advanced hormone-sensitive prostate cancer in Europe*

Prior to joining Goodwin, Laurenz worked as an associate in the Brussels and London offices of other leading international law firms. Laurenz also worked as an in-house counsel while seconded to Amazon.com, Inc.
