Jordan Bock is an associate in the firm’s Complex Litigation and Dispute Resolution group and a member of its Appellate and Supreme Court Litigation practice. Jordan’s work focuses on appellate matters and complex civil litigation; her experience spans a range of areas, including patent litigation, administrative law, antitrust, commercial litigation, and ERISA. Jordan has argued before the Second, Fifth, Ninth, and Federal Circuits, the U.S. District Courts for the Northern District of California, the Northern District of Illinois, and the District of Vermont, the New York Appellate Division’s First Department, and the Delaware Court of Chancery. Throughout her time at Goodwin, she has authored and contributed to numerous briefs and dispositive motions in state and federal court. Jordan also maintains an active pro bono practice, with recent experience in immigration law, disability law, and Sixth Amendment right-to-counsel issues. 

Before joining Goodwin in 2020, Jordan clerked for Justice Elena Kagan of the U.S. Supreme Court, Judge Michelle Friedland of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and Judge Vince Chhabria of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. 

Experience

Jordan’s recent representative experience includes:

  • Successfully argued Second Circuit appeal addressing issues of international arbitration and contract validity
  • Represented leading pharmaceutical manufacturer in putative class actions challenging patent litigation settlement on antitrust grounds. Co-authored numerous district court motions and supported trial team in landmark defense victory in multiple billion dollar HIV drug litigation
  • Co-authored prevailing briefs in Eleventh Circuit appeal for John Hancock Life Insurance Company (USA), leading to a published opinion addressing issues of first impression involving the treatment of foreign tax credits or deductions under ERISA   
  • Co-authored prevailing brief in successful Fourth Circuit appeal involving a dispute over international discovery on behalf of a Swiss pharmaceutical company. The published opinion adopted a new standard for when a foreign company can be “found in” the United States and subjected to discovery under 28 U.S.C. 1782
  • Co-authored a trio of briefs successfully defending a jury verdict and two rulings from the Patent Trial and Appeal Board and argued one of the three cases before the Federal Circuit
  • Co-authored brief and opposition to petition for rehearing en banc successfully defending grant of summary judgment on patent-eligibility grounds before the Federal Circuit
