Aylar Banafshe is an associate in the firm’s Business Law department in Washington, DC. She joined Goodwin in 2023 and was a summer associate in 2022.

Aylar focuses her practice on the representation of private equity sponsors and their portfolio companies in an array of corporate transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, exit transactions, and general corporate matters.

An avid polyglot, Aylar is fluent in Persian, Spanish, French and English, and speaks conversational Arabic. She previously studied Arabic at the Arabic Language Centre in Dubai and at the University of Jordan in Amman.

Aylar is a member of the Iranian American Community Center (colloquially, Pars Place), a secular cultural organization promoting Persian art, literature, and heritage in Tysons, Virginia. She is also a member of the Washington, DC chapter (and previously the UAE chapter) of Alliance Française, an international organization sponsored by the French government that promotes the French language and culture.

Professional Experience

Prior to attending law school, Aylar worked at Latham & Watkins in Washington, DC as an attorney support assistant. During undergrad, she interned at both the Peruvian and Jordanian embassies, and worked part-time as a Spanish and French tutor.

  • Regularly providing translation and consecutive interpretation services in connection with numerous matters for non-English speaking clients
  • Partnering with The Advocates for Human Rights on the research and drafting of a report to the United Nations regarding the current laws in Jordan pertaining to the death penalty
