Litigator of the Week Runners-Up honors a team led by Complex Litigation & Dispute Resolution partners Kirk Ogrosky, James D. Gatta and Tierney Smith, and associates Jenna Welsh, Owen Marks and Jordan Wenik, who won an acquittal this week for Sam Halper, the CEO of Comprehensive Healthcare Management Service who was accused of healthcare fraud in a case involving two nursing facilities in Western Pennsylvania. Federal prosecutors accused Halper and others of falsifying documents to make it appear the facilities were meeting staffing requirements and upcoding patient diagnoses to prompt longer, more lucrative stays. Although jurors found two facilities owned by the company guilty, they acquitted Halper and his individual codefendants.
