Entering the October 2022 term, only 10, or 20%, of the 48 attorneys scheduled to argue before the court were first-timers, and ahead of the October 2021 term, only 17, or 27%, of the 61 attorneys scheduled to argue were first-time advocates. This year's newcomers represent 49% of attorneys slated to argue before the high court so far. Appellate & Supreme Court Litigation partner Jaime Santos, who will argue for Trinidad and Tobago native Situ Kamu Wilkinson alongside Ahmad in the trio of immigration cases, said she is preparing the same way she always has for appellate oral arguments, but throwing some additional moot courts into the mix. Santos has worked on Supreme Court cases for almost 10 years, beginning when she was an associate, but this will be her first time arguing in front of the court. She said to Law360 that she feels an "overwhelming sense of responsibility, any time you're before the Supreme Court, you realize quickly there are thousands of people who will rely on the case law you're going to develop".
