Goodwin announced the addition of a top healthcare regulatory attorney, Greg Demske, in Washington, D.C. Demske was most recently chief counsel to the inspector general of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. He had spent his entire legal career at the department, including a decade as counsel to the inspector general. After doing his diligence on which firm would be most appropriate, Goodwin’s focus on healthcare was a differentiator, he said. “They have a collaborative environment and a strong and growing healthcare practice,” he said to The American Lawyer. “And their clients will need insight on issues I specialize in such as regulation and compliance.” Kirk Ogrosky, chair of the Healthcare Government Enforcement & False Claims Act Defense group, said Demske’s knowledge of the regulatory environment was a differentiator for the firm’s clients. “It’s not enough to be embedded in the industry,” he said. “You need to understand the regulatory environment as well.”
