Goodwin Procter Announces Fifth Annual Public Company Directors Forums in Silicon Valley and Boston

BOSTON, May 27, 2011Goodwin Procter, a national Am Law 50 firm, in conjunction with Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business, will host its fifth annual Directors Forums on June 2 in Silicon Valley and June 9 in Boston.  The 2011 Forums will address changes to whistleblower laws and their implications for public company directors; executive compensation issues resulting from Dodd-Frank and other SEC rule changes; and the perils and pitfalls of public company M&A activity. This is the first year that the Forum will be held on both the East and West Coasts.

The West Coast Forum will feature a keynote address from Maynard Webb, chairman and CEO of LiveOps, which provides on-demand call center technology and solutions to enterprise companies. His presentation, “Catalysts for Change,” will focus on risk versus innovation, the speed at which technology platforms are changing and how all of these trends facet the actions and decisions of boards of directors. Webb has more than 30 years experience developing and leading high-growth companies. Before joining LiveOps, he was chief operating officer of eBay and senior vice president and CIO of Gateway. He has also held leadership positions at Bay Networks, Quantum Corp., Thomas-Conrad Corp. and IBM, and sits on the boards of several successful companies.

The East Coast Forum will feature a keynote address from Dr. Matthew Slaughter, an associate dean of the MBA Program at the Tuck School and the Signal Companies’ Professor of Management. His keynote will provide an overview of the findings of The Squam Lake Report, which was authored by 15 of the world’s leading economists and contains recommendations on fixing troubled financial markets. An expert in the economics and politics of globalization, Slaughter’s work focuses on the global operations of multinational firms and the labor-market impacts of international trade, investment and immigration. From 2005 to 2007, he served as a member on the Council of Economic Advisers in the Executive Office of the President.

“Now in its fifth year, our Directors Forum provides a compelling alternative to traditional corporate governance programs in the marketplace,” said Stuart Cable, a partner in Goodwin Procter’s M&A/Corporate Governance Practice and founder of the Forum. “We look forward to once again addressing the most pertinent issues affecting public company directors.”

“The Forum is one of the firm’s flagship events, and we’re thrilled to be able to bring it to the West Coast this year,” added Anthony McCusker, co-chair of the firm’s Technology Practice and a member of the Forum’s Steering Committee.

In addition to Goodwin Procter partner participants, including Stuart Cable, Lisa Haddad, Deborah Birnbach, Steven Feldstein and Heidi Goldstein Shepherd, Forum speakers and panelists will include:

  • Amy Bilbija, senior vice president, MacKenzie Partners
  • Mark Borges, principal, Compensia
