Over the years, Brackett B. Denniston III has maintained a strong relationship with the firm and its attorneys.
In March, he spoke at the firm's annual partner retreat held in San Diego. Goodwin litigation partner Todd Cronan introduced Brackett and fellow litigation partner James Rehnquist conducted a casual Q&A session. Brackett spoke about his time at Goodwin, his fond memories of the firm and its people, and what characterizes a successful lawyer. "Good lawyers have guts and take a point of view," he said. "Taking a tough case and being courageous about it is what separates lawyers."
Brackett was an associate at Goodwin from 1974 to 1982, and a partner from 1986 to 1993. He practiced in Goodwin's Boston office, where he specialized in complex litigation, securities and white collar crime matters. From 1993 to 1996, he was chief legal counsel to Governor William F. Weld of Massachusetts. Prior to that, he was chief of the Major Frauds Unit of the U.S. Attorney's Office, responsible for white collar crime prosecutions. Brackett was a member of the Attorney General's White Collar Crime Operations Committee, and was awarded the Department of Justice's Director's Award for Superior Performance for his role overseeing numerous successful prosecutions.
Currently, Brackett is senior vice president, secretary and general counsel for General Electric Company. In addition, he is a director of GE Capital Corporation and the GE Foundation, as well as a member of GE's Corporate Executive Council. Brackett also serves as chairman of the company's Policy Compliance Review Board, the governing compliance board of GE. He previously served as GE's vice president and senior counsel for litigation and legal policy from 1996 to 2004.
