Patty Johansen is Goodwin’s Managing Director of Knowledge & Innovation for Business Law and also serves as Counsel. Patty focuses on knowledge management and practice innovation to enable the firm's Business Law attorneys to deliver high value legal services to firm clients. Patty and her team are responsible for efficiency-enhancing technologies, such as artificial intelligence and document automation, that enhance attorney workflows and processes. Patty drove the development of Goodwin’s “Deep Deal” deal-term analytics and insights platform which was named the winner of the “Best Use of Technology” award at the 2022 American Lawyer Industry Awards.
Patty directs a staff of knowledge management lawyers tasked to develop know how, monitor legal developments, and deliver practice tools. She also oversees the capture and leverage of the firm’s business law experience, the analysis of trends and insights from the firm’s deal terms data, and the maintenance of knowledge sharing platforms for the Business Law department.
Prior to rejoining Goodwin in 2005, Patty was a partner at McDermott, Will & Emery, and prior to that, Senior Legal Counsel at Fidelity Investments. Patty started her legal career at Goodwin as a corporate associate.
Patty holds a JD from Boston College Law School (magna cum laude) and a BA from Bucknell University (magna cum laude).
