James H. Hammons, Jr. re-joined Goodwin in November 2021 as a Knowledge & Innovation Lawyer & Counsel in the Business Law Department, supporting the Capital Markets and Public Company Advisory practices. Mr. Hammons was previously a corporate associate at the firm from 1994 until 2000. From 2000 until October 2021, he was an in-house attorney at Akamai Technologies, Inc., a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based provider of solutions for securing and delivering content and business applications over the internet with a market cap of greater than $17 billion. Serving most recently as Vice President, Deputy General Counsel & Assistant Secretary, Mr. Hammons was primarily focused on corporate governance advice, federal securities law compliance, corporate finance, mergers & acquisitions, and ethics and compliance.
Mr. Hammons graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in History and Economics and from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1993, where he was Managing Editor of the Virginia Law Review and named to the Order of Coif. Following graduation from law school, he clerked for The Honorable James M. Sprouse of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
