Greg Barclay is a partner in Goodwin’s Private Investment Funds group specialising in complex cross-border fund formation and other capital structuring transactions. Greg is chair of the Singapore office and serves on the firm’s Partnership Committee.

Greg has been practicing for more than 20 years and for most of this time has been focused on the structuring and establishment of international private investment funds, including private equity, venture capital, credit, infrastructure, real estate and hybrid funds, and related carried interest and management-focused corporate arrangements. In addition, he advises on various investor relations and ongoing fund operation matters and represents institutional investors investing in private funds.

Greg also advises on other investment-related matters across the alternative asset classes, including joint ventures, co-investments, segregated accounts, investment management mandates, and complex secondaries/restructuring transactions.

Greg is also a member of various of the firm’s innovative practice groups, including the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) & Impact, PropTech, and Secondaries practices.

Greg has been named a leading lawyer for Investment Funds (Singapore) by Chambers Asia Pacific 2024 and has been listed as highly regarded in IFLR1000 2023. He has been commended by interviewees as “an incredible fund formation lawyer with deep knowledge about the market. He is extremely focused on client service and has looked after our every need efficiently”. He has also been described as “calm, practical, approachable and helpful. Some of his other clients have included Alpha Associates, Ares Management, Bancroft Private Equity, Gallatin Point Capital, BentallGreenOak, NREP, Spice Private Equity, Thor Equities, and Viola Group.

Professional Activities

Greg is a member of the Law Society of Hong Kong, the Law Society of England and Wales and the American Bar Association. He is also a member of ANREV’s Events Committee.

Professional Experience

Prior to joining Goodwin, Greg was a senior associate in the investment funds group in the London office of Ashurst and in the Munich office of SJ Berwin. Greg originally trained and practiced in the Toronto office of Borden Ladner Gervais.
