Dr. Bonnie Choi is an associate in the firm’s Business Law department and a member of its Life Sciences Intellectual Property group. She joined Goodwin in 2018. She is a registered patent attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Her practice focuses on US and foreign patent preparation and prosecution, patent portfolio management and analyses, prior art research, patentability and freedom-to operate analyses, and diligence analyses for financing transactions and licensing deals in all areas of life sciences. Her clients range from start-ups to commercial-stage pharmaceutical companies.
Professional Experience
Dr. Choi has experience in conducting patent preparation and prosecution in the pharmaceutical field, primarily on small molecule therapeutics. She uses her expertise in chemistry and her extensive research experience to help clients secure worldwide strategic protection of IP assets.
Prior to joining Goodwin, Dr. Choi received her PhD in Chemistry from Columbia University. Her PhD research focused on the synthesis of hybrid organic-inorganic materials. Dr. Choi has presented her work at national and international conferences and is an author on 16 papers in peer-reviewed journals including Journal of the American Chemical Society, Nature Nanotechnology, Nano Letters, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Inorganic Chemistry, and Chemical Science.
Dr. Choi also served as a fellow at Columbia Technology Ventures, the technology transfer office for Columbia University.
