Jim Broderick is a retired partner in the firm’s Real Estate Industry group. During his 30+ years at Goodwin, Jim represented real estate investment advisors and other institutional investors in complex real estate transactions across the U.S., with particular emphasis on structuring and implementing equity joint ventures and sophisticated debt investments. Jim also has significant experience in the formation of commingled real estate investment funds, and in structuring subscription secured credit facilities on behalf of institutional investment funds. In addition, Jim has represented developers and noninstitutional investors in numerous other real estate acquisition, financing, development, zoning and land use matters.

Jim served as either Chair or Co-Chair of Goodwin’s Real Estate Finance/Joint Ventures practice group for the 16 year period prior to his retirement in 2022. He also served for many years on numerous other firm committees, such as the Attorney Review Committee, the Boston Hiring Committee, the Boston Opinions Committee, and the Business Law Associates Committee. In 2021 Jim received the firm’s Dick Floor Award, awarded annually to a partner of the firm who exemplifies an outstanding dedication to fostering collegiality and community at the firm.  

Over his career Jim represented clients such as AEW Capital Management, AvalonBay Communities, Bain Capital Real Estate, Boston Properties, Beacon Capital Partners, BlackRock Real Estate Advisors, Cross-Harbor Capital Partners, and Fidelity Real Estate Group.

Professional Activities

In addition to participating in numerous other industry speaking engagements over his career, Jim was a consistent guest lecturer at the annual Columbia Business School/MIT Center for Real Estate symposium on real estate joint ventures.

Jim was also a member of the Town of Hingham, MA Zoning Board of Appeals for 12 years.
