Richard Bloomfield is counsel in Goodwin’s Technology and Life Sciences group who has significant experience of venture capital, M&A, and private equity transactions.
He has worked in a number of industry sectors and has particularly deep expertise in the technology sector, where he now focusses on supporting emerging technology and life sciences business including clients operating in the SaaS, fintech, insurtech, adtech, proptech, deep tech, and blockchain industries.
Richard is recognised as a “Key Lawyer” for venture capital and as a “Rising Star” for M&A in the Legal 500 industry publication.
Prior to joining Goodwin, Richard was a Senior Associate at Bird & Bird LLP and an Associate at Herbert Smith Freehills LLP working in London, Singapore, and Dubai. He has also been seconded to the legal teams of a technology business and an investment bank.

- Vertice on its $50 million Series C financing led by Lakestar. Vertice is a London-based tech-enabled SaaS and cloud spend management company which is designed to help businesses reduce their annual software and cloud spend by 20-30% as well as streamlining the purchasing process
- SuperSeed on its lead investment in the £3.5 million seed funding of Cerve, a technology platform that allows organisations to build new and innovative custom applications and automations across the supply chain, driving profitability, commercial growth, reduced food waste and enhanced food security
- Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan on their investment into DeepL as part of a $300 million financing round at a $2 billion valuation
- Isometric on its $25 million seed financing round
- Gensyn, a London based blockchain start-up, on the completion of its $43 million Series A fundraise
- Citymapper on its sale to Via
- Grey Wolf Therapeutics in its $49 million Series B financing
- Kinnevik on its participation in Mews Systems $185 million Series C financing round
