Law.com honored Goodwin at the 2025 Legalweek Leaders in Tech Law Awards in the Enabling Start-Up Success category for its representation of GaeaStar, an advanced distributed manufacturer of 3D-printed clay coffee cups. The annual awards honor the significant achievements of legal professionals and organizations that have pushed the boundaries of legal innovation in the past year.
Led by Technology partner and Climate Technology Co-Chair Andrew Sparks, Goodwin’s Technology team has worked with GaeaStar from its early stages to bring its vision of 3D-printed clay coffee cups to life and set a new precedent for the sustainability of coffee consumption. Goodwin advised on GaeaStar’s $6.5 million seed funding round and provided strategic guidance that ultimately helped the company secure partnerships with leading third-wave coffee roasters in the Bay Area, facilitating the distribution of its 3D-printed clay cups. With Goodwin’s guidance, GaeaStar is poised to revolutionize the coffee industry and address the critical environmental issues caused by the widespread use of single-use paper and plastic cups.
Based in San Francisco and Berlin, GaeaStar’s technology uses geo-neutral materials and decentralized manufacturing to create zero waste disposable single-use products on demand, such as coffee cups, from earthen materials that disintegrate naturally without any environmental impact.
