Global law firm Goodwin today announced that Allan Medina joined the firm’s White Collar Defense and Government Investigations, and Healthcare practices as a partner, and will be resident in the Washington, DC office.
Allan joins Goodwin after serving as Senior Deputy Chief of the Fraud Section of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). He has more than 15 years of white collar enforcement and federal jury trial experience.
“A highly regarded senior DOJ official, prosecutor and trial lawyer, Allan’s breadth of knowledge and extensive experience in white collar, investigations and corporate compliance matters deepens and expands our practice nationally and globally,” said James Gatta, a member of Goodwin’s White Collar Defense and Government Investigations practice, and co-chair of the firm’s Healthcare practice. “Allan will be a tremendous asset to our clients across the healthcare, life sciences, technology, real estate and financial industries. We are thrilled to welcome him to the team and have him as our colleague.”
During his tenure at the DOJ, Allan served on the Fraud Section’s senior management team, and supervised and managed more than 190 federal prosecutors, data analysts, and support staff across many practice areas, including healthcare fraud, violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, corporate compliance, securities and investment fraud, crypto and digital assets fraud, and money laundering.
Allan also served as the Chief of the Fraud Section’s Health Care Fraud Unit. In that role, he supervised more than 74 prosecutors and data analysts in investigating and prosecuting individuals and companies across the country in complex healthcare fraud matters and cases involving the illegal prescription, distribution, and diversion of opioids. As a Fraud Section leader, Allan has served as a key liaison to various governmental and regulatory stakeholders, particularly in the areas of healthcare fraud and abuse, such as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and state attorneys general. He was named “Prosecutor of the Year” by the Coalition Against Insurance Fraud and recognized by the Health Care Anti-Fraud Association for leading the “2019 Investigation of the Year.”
“Goodwin’s reputation for legal excellence and its commitment to provide comprehensive legal counsel across a wide array of government enforcement priorities distinguishes Goodwin from other law firms,” said Allan. “I look forward to joining a firm whose culture and people are centered on building relationships with its clients in a way that leverages its expertise gained from its global footprint, where I can contribute to their exceptional white collar team of former federal prosecutors to help clients navigate complex criminal and regulatory issues.”
“We are very excited to have such an accomplished litigator join our team,” said Richard Strassberg, chair of Goodwin’s White Collar Defense and Government Investigations practice. “We can’t wait to partner with Allan to advance the interests of our clients.”
Allan is the latest partner to join Goodwin’s distinguished bench of former government regulators, federal prosecutors, and experienced white collar defense attorneys. His arrival follows the recent additions of Ilene Albala, Greg Demske, Jonathan Hecht and Kirk Ogrosky in Washington, DC, Mark Beardsworth in London, Miranda Hooker in Boston, Thomas Gallagher in Philadelphia in San Francisco.
