U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission examiners will focus on cryptocurrency and emerging financial technology in the coming year, the SEC stated in its 2024 Exam Priorities report released this week. “The list of things that they’re going to look at for crypto is a lot longer than it used to be,” said Gregory Larkin, Financial Services and Private Investment Funds partner, to Law.com. The SEC has focused on financial actors in the crypto space but now seems to be placing greater attention on investment advisers, he added. “We’ve been kind of waiting for the focus to turn,” Larkin said.
