Best Lawyers has named Goodwin Procter partners Bill Mayer and William Whitledge as 2016 “Lawyers of the Year.” The distinction, based on peer-review, is presented annually to a single stand-out lawyer in each practice and major metropolitan area.
Mayer, Boston’s Banking & Finance “Lawyer of the Year,” is a partner in and co-chair of the firm’s Financial Institutions Group. He serves as corporate and regulatory counsel for financial institutions and financial institution holding companies, ranging from global and larger U.S. banking organizations to regional and community banks. Mayer has also participated in missions for USAID, the World Bank and the IMF to address financial sector issues in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Latin America, and has been listed in Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business.
Whitledge, Boston’s Tax “Lawyer of the Year,” a partner in and chair of the firm's Tax Practice, specializes in corporate, partnership, foreign and general business taxation. He spends a substantial amount of time structuring international and domestic business transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, financings, dispositions, reorganizations and other business restructurings, and venture capital investments. Whitledge has been recognized annually by The Legal 500 and Best Lawyers and Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business.
