Goodwin Procter has been ranked by Private Equity Analyst as one of the top five firms in three categories for private equity and venture capital transactions. Based on volume of deals closed in 2008, Goodwin placed as the 4th most active law firm. The firm ranked 3rd for private equity and buyout deals and placed 5th for venture capital transactions.
These survey results come on the heels of Goodwin Procter's recent recognition by Buyouts Magazine as “Law Firm of the Year” in the leveraged buyout industry. The honor was based on Goodwin Procter's experience in traditional leveraged buyouts and the firm's robust expansion in the private equity sector over the past year.
Goodwin Procter has a team of over 100 attorneys focused on later-stage buyouts, recapitalizations and portfolio company transactions, along with 160 lawyers who handle early-stage, venture and technology deals. It is one of the few firms in the country that can cover the full spectrum of the private equity asset class – fund formation, venture financing, junior and senior debt, buyouts, going privates, recapitalizations, exits, venture-backed IPOs and other public securities offerings. Goodwin Procter is also ranked by Chambers USA as one of the elite private equity and venture capital practices in the United States. John LeClaire chairs Goodwin Procter’s Private Equity Practice; John Egan and William Schnoor serve as co-chairs of the firm’s Technology Companies practice.
