Firm’s chairman and managing partner receives Lelia J. Robinson Award for demonstrating excellence in legal profession
BOSTON, Oct. 31, 2001 — Goodwin Procter LLP today announced that Chairman and Managing Partner Regina M. Pisa will receive the Women’s Bar Association Lelia J. Robinson Award on November 1, 2001.
“I am deeply honored to accept the Lelia J. Robinson Award,” said Pisa. “Ms. Robinson was a pioneer and visionary in the legal profession and truly opened doors for women to pursue successful and fulfilling legal careers.
“In breaking new ground for women in the law profession, she epitomized a true entrepreneur. At Goodwin Procter, we strive to continue her entrepreneurial and creative spirit each day,” said Pisa.
The prestigious award is given to women who have achieved professional excellence in the legal profession, have supported advancement opportunities for women, and have performed exemplary public service on behalf of women.
Past recipients include Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno.
In 1998, Pisa became the first woman in the United States to be named both chairman and managing partner of an American Lawyer 100 firm. In this position, she is responsible for leading the firm’s vision and strategy, as well as expanding its presence nationally. As such, she is chairman of the firm’s management committee and executive committee.
In addition, Pisa is chairman of the firm’s banking group and maintains her practice in the financial services area, focusing on mergers and acquisitions of banks and financial institutions.
Outside of the firm, Pisa serves on numerous Boards for various community organizations and institutions, including Citizens Financial Group, Inc., Jobs for Massachusetts, Inc. Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, Simmons College, Women’s Educational and Industrial Union, Franciscan Children’s Hospital, and Easter Seals Society, Massachusetts, among others.
Along with Pisa, the Honorable Eileen Shaevel, retired associate justice of the Massachusetts Probate and Family Court, will receive the Lelia J. Robinson award for her contributions to the legal profession.
