BOSTON — Daniel R. Kaplan and Lori S. Smith have joined Goodwin Procter LLP in the Corporate Department of the firm's New York office. Mr. Kaplan, a well-known attorney in the area of corporate transactions, joins as Counsel; Ms. Smith, who specializes in mergers and acquisitions, financings and general corporate work for technology companies, joins as Partner.

Mr. Kaplan, who joins the firm from the New York office of Akin, Gump brings with him over 45 years of legal experience. He has a varied corporate practice, primarily advising senior management in strategic planning and acquisitions and dispositions. He is a director of numerous civic and community organizations including Take the Field, Inc. and the Philadelphia Eagles Youth Foundation. He has served as president and chairman of the 92nd Street Y and was a director of the Javits Center.
Ms. Smith also joins the firm from Akin, Gump's New York office. She represents technology companies in the areas of venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances and joint ventures, and issues relating to a company's anticipation of a public offering, sale or merger.
